2.3 Comb Foundations
Honey bees build comb in fairly predictable ways, and beekeepers take advantage of this tendency.
In the wild, bees build combs in tree cavities, or sometimes under a building overhang or on a cliff face. Each comb is two sided, that is to say it has cells for brood or honey on both the front and back of an ostensibly flat center panel.
